I, too, worked for
Werner, August
24, 2009
|
I, too, worked for a "Werner" as the
author relates. Interesting reading of a
then and now company on its focus and
its values. Indeed, sad that people must
be expended because of negligence and
the heartbeat stopped for the bottom
line. This story exemplifies the cold
corporate world as it casts away the
founding father's mission of people
caring for people. |

GET READY TO
BE RIVETED!, August 13, 2009
Our hero, he's all business. Know his game, knows his
industry too. He's one of the good guys. Unfortunately
we can't say the same for some of the folks he works
for.
In his first novel Kimbrell focuses on from whence he
came. A tad overwhelming at times, but that only puts
forth his point more succinctly. When the tough guys
decide they can mess with our hero they get a surprise -
he took notes, lots and lots and lots of them. Oh yeah,
tapes too.
Sound intriguing? It should. And believe me you'll want
to take this book to bed and then not sleep a wink until
you finish it. I even started to try and out-think the
bad guys so things wouldn't get any worse for our hero.
Not to worry. Apparently during his 31years in the
medical supply biz Kimbrell has come up against some not
so nice folks. But then again, when the chips are down
and you're one of the good guys, the other good guys
find you!
Kimbrell's got a winner straight out of the gate. Can't
wait to see what he comes up with next. Stay tuned, he's
no doubt into this for the long haul and we can just sit
back and be riveted! |

Very Good Read,
December 15, 2009
Code 936 by Bill Kimbrell is an action packed thriller,
which begins with a Christian influence alluded to
throughout the book. The novel develops rather blandly and
naively at the beginning and turns into a page turner,
medical espionage a nd corporate crime expose that is
alarming in the face of the health care crisis in the United
States today. If the book portrays the industry of managed
care accurately we should all fear for our lives. The
short-cuts companies take in the novel to keep the investors
happy with their bottom line reports lead to unjust firing
of long-term, faithful builders of the company and criminal
acts in the name of reorganization. Off shore banking and
hidden slush funds to avoid taxes are coupled with lax
quality control when manufacturing is moved to remote places
where labor is cheap and there are no environmental controls
necessary...sounds too familiar in the climate of capitalism
and greed which have run rampant in the last decade. This
book will keep you reading and make your awareness question
what are now all too common practices that seem so remote
and unrelated to the average person. I recommend this for a
good read. |

Book Review - Code 936,
November 17, 2009
I was recently asked to review a new medical
international thriller entitled CODE 936 by
Bill Kimbrell, Jr. As an individual who
enjoys reading and especially reading action
packed thrillers, I was excited to hear
about and to read this book.
After reading more about the book as well as
the background of the author, I was
intrigued as to what to expect in the book
itself!
One of the things that I loved to see in the
acknowledgment section was the fact that Mr.
Kimbrell was a Rotarian. As a fellow
Rotarian, I am always amazed at the breadth
an depth of things that Rotarians
accomplish, not only in their professional
lives but in their Rotary lives as well and
it is always great to meet new Rotarians in
person or virtually.
Once the book arrived, I dived in and was
quickly engrossed in the story. One of the
things that jumps out immediately is the
fact that with Mr. Kimbrells' background in
ethics, he surrounds his main character and
the company with many ethical trials that
need to addressed. You could even say that
there was a true lack of ethical standards
with Werner (the company in question).
Mr. Kimbrell's book was vivid with illusion
and illustration. The way that he portrays
images within his book makes the storyline
and the characters jump to life. You start
to relate and despise some of the
characters. You can picture the scenes in
your mind and become one with the story.
These are the type of stories that I always
love to read as they are ones that you
cannot put down.
For his first book, this was a great start,
I would have to say that I would love to
read more from Mr. Kimbrell and hope that I
will see more from him in the near future!

A great book full of
perfidious acts and characters. Is that
not a great word?, November
17, 2009
International Thriller
A great book full of perfidious acts and
characters. Is that not a great word. I
think it's the author's favorite and I kind
of like it myself.
The main character, James Cantrill who is
the CEO and President of his own business,
James Cantrill & Associates, Inc., is a good
man who is running a business that sells and
maintains medical devices used in knee
and/or hip replacement surgery. His business
is located in Lexington, KY but he travels
into the mountains to help surgeons with the
surgerys that they perform and "stands-in"
as he calls it during operations to see that
everything goes according to plan.
Unfortunately, something goes wrong during a
procedure of a total hip replacement and the
patient dies. James starts his own private
investigation into the device that was used
and finds discrepancies in the stock number
being smudged so badly that it couldn't be
read. And, also it turned out to be the
wrong size.
Shortly after this disaster Jim is called to
the main office in Indiana and subsequently
he is fired with the explanation that he is
getting older and cannot handle the business
any longer and they proceed to take away
everything that Jim and his family have and
try to buy him off with money. The
Vice-President of the Company, George
Driskell, Sr. is a real snake oil salesman,
Lenny Shortt, supposedly a friend of Jims,
who is the Sales Veep and a very slippery
lawyer who has delusions of running the
whole thing someday are the three musketeers
who lower the boom on Jim. But, our hero
will not give in to them and throws their
money back in their faces. FORTUNATELY, Jim
has lots of notes and tapes of telephone
calls he made regarding the damaged devices
and is planning to report them to the FBI.
UNFORTUNATELY, before Jim can do this he is
kidnapped. This is when we get to the title,
Code 936. This is an IRS tax code that
benefits huge manufacturers who are making
the defective devices and what Jim knows
about this will probably get him killed.
Because of his investigation he could bring
to light the whole network including his
former employer.
I don't want to give away the ending because
I've been on the edge of my chair reading
this book and don't want to spoil it for
other readers. Suffice to say this story is
very powerful with everything from fraud,
greed, torture, corruption and last but not
least Managed Health Care. It's disgusting
to think that things like this really go on
in this world but, they do. Mr. Kimbrell has
a book that describes the modern corporate
world. I'm looking forward to the next. By
the way, have you looked up perfidious yet?
The meaning according to the Oxford
Dictionary is treacherous, traitorous or
deceitful.
I recommend this to all suspense, mystery,
international thriller readers and anything
in between. Enjoy!!! |

A Real Sizzler! Kimbrell is a
new Grisham!, November 2, 2009
As a guy in Medicine, I never dreamed that
ethics could be so loose, i.e.,
non-existent! The web is brilliantly woven,
and the dialog is bright and electric. I
could just not put it down, and cannot wait
for the next Kimbrell work! Unfortunately,
there must be a lot of people drawn into
these kinds of entanglements, but I hope
that those with such defective standards as
depicted by Kimbrell stew in their own
drippings.
If I could write like this, perhaps I'd get
a GOOD paying job! Thanks Mr. Kimbrell!
